In 2016, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO), it was estimated that 40.3 million people were living in some form of modern slavery, and 1 in 4 were children. Forced labor accounted for 24.9 million, where 18% of identified victims were children (4.5 million); more than 1 million victims of forced sexual exploitation, and 21% of these were children under 18. In addition, of the 15.4 million people living in a forced marriage, approximately 37% were children (5.7 million).
