LISA MURDOCK, MSN, RN, CNE

Lisa Murdock MSN, RN, CNE, is an acute care pediatric nurse and a pediatric clinical nursing professor. Since 2000, she has worked in pediatric acute care in several children’s hospitals across the country, including 12 years in Puerto Rico. Lisa began her journey in anti-trafficking efforts after meeting a survivor in 2014. That meeting inspired her to expand her work to include exploitation and human trafficking in healthcare education and to implement evidence-based protocols for inpatient pediatric hospitals. Lisa believes that nurses are in a unique position at the frontlines of patient care to identify and advocate for at-risk individuals or those already being trafficked. As a nurse, she believes it is imperative to accurately educate healthcare providers and to implement a multidisciplinary approach to anti-trafficking efforts, including collaborating with outpatient service agencies.

Working as a pediatric clinical professor has enabled her to integrate human trafficking education into pediatric clinical rotations at the university level. Lisa continues to conduct and translate research on healthcare and human trafficking into practice, improving patient outcomes through provider education, screening implementation, policy and response protocols, and establishing an outpatient referral network. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master’s degree in Nursing Education, and a post-graduate certification in nursing education. Lisa is a member of the Society of Pediatric Nurses and the Association of California Nurse Leaders. She is actively involved in the local human trafficking task force and serves as the co-chair of the healthcare subcommittee.
