The Four Pillars
Human trafficking and exploitation often remain invisible, significantly under-recognized, and under- documented even though survivors report intersecting with the healthcare system. There remains a limited awareness and response to human trafficking due to multiple factors: lack of accurate knowledge, training, and education, lack of identification and response by professionals, lack of adoption of evidenced-based policies and protocols, the reluctance of survivors to disclose violence and abuse, limited long-term resources specific to human trafficking and complex trauma survivors, and the absence of a centralized database to track these occurrences and resources.
ReVEST® has created the 4-pillar approach, empowering healthcare professionals and medical institutions to improve the recognition, response, treatment, and care coordination of individuals and families experiencing or at risk of exploitation. All pillars must be in place to ensure healthcare providers and institutions have the tools they need to improve healthcare outcomes for these vulnerable patients.
